Boating Electronics: Proper Boat Wiring

Boating Electronics

By its very definition, a high-quality luxury fishing boat demands superior technology. With our advanced electronic systems, we can create boats that use the latest technologies that you find anywhere on land. At Scout Boats, we believe that your lifestyle of quality and comfort should continue whether you’re on land or water, so we wire our boats to meet your highly-sophisticated needs.

Boating Electronics

PROPER WIRING CREATES AN EXQUISITE BOAT

Before we dive into the specifics of our wiring, let’s talk a little bit about why proper wiring matters. With our advanced electronic system, we can add more features, more electronics, and more technology to your boat, allowing you to have a more rewarding experience on the water.

Take the 420 LXF as an example. Thanks to our advanced electrical system, we can wire this boat with standard features like a Fusion speaker deck and amplifier, cabin sound bar, dimming courtesy lights, three Garmin screens, CZONE digital switching, and much more. And it’s all thanks to our advanced electrical wiring!

RELAYS ALLOW YOU RUN YOUR SYSTEM WITHOUT DRAINING THE BATTERY

One of the biggest concerns with operating electronics on a boat, especially an offshore boat, is draining the battery. In other boats, as you run systems like the radio, lights, or other electronic features, you may be slowly draining the engine battery. What happens if it drains all the way? The starter on your motors may not have enough voltage to turn over, potentially leaving you stranded on the water. This is not only a convenience concern, this is a safety issue.

However, Scout Boats are made with an advanced relay system that keeps the battery from draining. You can use the radio, navigation, and many other features without emptying the engine battery. This is a major advantage in the water, allowing you to enjoy your boat and head back to the dock when you are ready.

PLUG-AND-PLAY SYSTEMS FOR RELIABILITY AND CONSISTENCY

When manufacturing our boats, we use a uniform system of plug-and-play parts. With this system of parts, we achieve accuracy within our manufacturing process and convenience when the boat needs maintenance and repairs. The wiring system is essentially uniform (as much as possible, at least), making our boats more consistent and convenient. While the wiring system is highly advanced, it’s also easier for a technician to work and make changes if needed.

AIRCRAFT-QUALITY WIRING

When you take a look behind the wiring panels on a Scout, you’ll see first-hand that this is no ordinary fishing boat. The boat is wired with aircraft-quality parts, which ensures long-lasting, reliable quality and allows you to run all the features, parts, and accessories that you demand.

READINGS FOR VARIOUS AREAS

At the front of the wiring panel, you’ll have access to different readings that give you information related to the boat’s electrical system. These readings can include the port battery, house battery, starboard battery, and more. There is even a reading for the AC voltage for battery charges, giving you the information you need when you’re out on the water.

FIND THE RIGHT BOAT FOR YOUR PERSONAL TASTE

Whether you want a large luxury cruiser or a nimble boat for fishing the flats, you’ll find the right options from Scout. When you are looking for quality and perfection from a fishing boat, Scout is the name to remember!

Flats Fishing: Tips, Fish & Boats

Flats Fishing

Flats Fishing

Flats fishing is one of the most interesting, rewarding, and visually-stimulating ways to fish. With species that are as gorgeous as the scenery, fishing the flats allows you to enjoy a highly active form of angling. Many of the people at Scout Boats love fishing the flats, and we’d like to share some of the most important tips and information with you, hopefully making you become a better angler and giving you more opportunities to enjoy your boat!

Techniques for Fishing the Flats

We could write a text book on flats fishing, so for this post, we’ll just stick to the basics. First of all, you need to understand that flats fishing is heavily influenced by the tides. When the tides are down, many of the flats become dry beaches. When the tides are up, however, predator fish move into the area to feed on the flooded beaches that hold shrimp, crab, and grazing baitfish. Make sure you understand the tidal calendar for the best success on the flats.

Many saltwater anglers move from shore fishing or surf casting straight into flats fishing. Unfortunately, the large, heavy equipment that allows you to cast at great distances is practically useless on the flats. You need light tackle like a spinning reel with a seven-foot rod or a light and nimble fly rod.

Bring your weights down, both in line and terminal tackle so you can cast accurately and place the bait exactly where you want it.

To find fish, use your eyes. The flats will be teeming with baitfish, so when you see activity in the water, this is the time to cast. Targeting structure is great for bass fishing, but in clear-water flats, spotting the fish is a smart practice. This means you’ll also want a raised platform so you can spot activity at greater distances. Polarized sunglasses will also help with sight fishing.

Because flat water trophy fish are often skittish, using a cane pole to navigate the flats will help you reduce noise and have more success.

If you’re fairly new to flat water fishing, it’s not a bad idea to hire a guide. You could spend years of trial and error to learn the best techniques and skills for flats fishing, or you could hire an expert for a day or two and take advantage of their experience.

Tops Species for Saltwater Flats Fishing

Permit: Found throughout the tropical Atlantic regions like southern Florida, the Caribbean, and the Bahamas, these fish give a tough fight when hooked, often taking up to ten minutes to land on lighter tackle. They feed off crab and shrimp on sandy bottoms and make great table fare.

Redfish: The redfish, also known as the red drum, is perhaps the most popular and sought-after saltwater fish in America. The species is found from the Texas gulf coast to the Washington D.C. area.

Bonefish: This might be the ultimate challenge for flats fishing. The elusive, wary, and finicky bonefish is a gorgeous species, but catching one requires patience and skill, making it a highly rewarding sport fish for shallow water flats.

Best Boats for Flats Fishing

Luxury Fishing Boats: Combining Angling & Comfort

225 XSF - Luxury

225 XSF - Luxury

Some boats are great for fishing. They have all the features you need for storing rods, organizing equipment, and keeping your catch. Other boats offer high-quality luxury, giving you comfort and convenience features that make cruising around the water a wonderful experience.

With a Scout, however, you get the best of both. You have a boat that helps you become a successful angler and a vessel that you and your family can enjoy for hours. How do we do it? Keep reading to find out how Scout Boats combines fishing and luxury to create the ultimate boating experience.

HOW WE COMBINE FISHING WITH COMFORT AND LUXURY

Premium Upholstery Materials
The comfort and luxury of a Scout starts with high-quality vinyl upholstery. This material uses nano-block technology that has three protection systems to keep it looking great for years. First, it protects against staining, which is a feature you’ll need when cutting bait or hauling in fish. Next, it protects against fading so the sun doesn’t dampen the color. Finally, it keeps mold from growing on the seats. All this results in seating that looks fantastic, even after years of fishing adventures.

Fishing Rod Holders
Every good angler needs multiple rods and reels. Every Scout, from the smallest model to our largest boat, has plenty of rod holders for all of your equipment. This means you can take everything from light fly rods to heavy deep-water fishing poles, making your trips all the more enjoyable.

Plenty of Storage
With all those rods, you’ll also need plenty of storage. Our boats have storage areas designed into multiple locations, including the front, back, and sides of the boat. You’ll be able to pack away nets, tackle boxes, and other fishing equipment without crowding the boat or creating a tripping hazard.

Aerated and Recirculating Live-wells
From live bait to your catch, anglers knows the importance of a high-quality live-well. Every boat we make has an aerated and recirculating live-well; some even have multiple wells on the front and back for added convenience.

Wired for GPS, Fish Finders, and Other Electronics
Electronics are more important to anglers than ever before. To have an advantage on the water, you need accurate fish finders, GPS markers, and other electronic systems. With a Scout, you’ll have a boat that is wired to handle all of your electronics, with equipment that matches an advanced aircraft. We also have advanced safety features in our wiring, including high-tech relays that allow for multiple systems without draining the battery.

Abundant Optional Features for Fishing
There are plenty of standard fishing and luxury features in a Scout, but perhaps the greatest advantage is all the optional features, allowing you to customize your fishing boat exactly how you like. Depending on the boat you choose, these can include aerated transom bait well, a deluxe cockpit tackle station, and even a stainless steel grill for cooking your catch without leaving the water!

GIVE YOURSELF LUXURY FISHING AT ITS FINEST

If you appreciate fine luxury and world-class fishing, you deserve a Scout. Use our Build Your Scout feature and you’ll be able to create the boat that perfectly meets your needs.

Preparing for the Boating Season

Boating Season

Boating Season

Spring is in the air and boating season is about to begin in full. At Scout Boats, we can’t wait for the warm weather and summer sun!

You can’t just rush to the water though. Before you head out, use these simple steps to prepare yourself, your equipment, and your boat for the entire year.

Have the Engine and Drive System Inspected

While Scout Boats use top-quality engines and components, it never hurts to take your boat in for a preseason inspection. If you’re knowledgeable about boat motors, you may be able to handle this yourself, but if you’re not completely sure, or you simply don’t have the time, take it to a qualified mechanic who can make sure your boat is ready for summer cruising.

Take a Look at the Propellers

This is an easy job for just about anyone. Take the time to look over the propellers on your boat and make sure there are no cracks, dents, or misalignments. A damaged propeller will disrupt performance and efficiency, and you’ll also want to make sure it is secured properly and the bearings are in tip-top shape. You may even want to purchase a couple spare propellers to keep in your boat in case of an emergency.

Check and Recharge the Batteries

Make sure the batteries on your boat are ready for the season. If they have been sitting all winter, especially in the cold, they may have lost power. If that’s the case, you’ll want to get them replaced or recharge them so you’re ready to go on Day 1.

Double Down on Safety

As a boater, you can never take safety too seriously. Start by inspecting all of your safety equipment, including life jackets, fire extinguishers, and the carbon monoxide detectors for enclosed areas. Make sure you have life jackets that will fit all of your passengers, and check the tag on your fire extinguisher to ensure it’s not expired.

You should also consider taking a safety course from the U.S. Coast Guard or another nautical organization. This will make you a safer boater for you and your passengers.

Wax the Hull

Give your pride and joy the royal treatment before boating season. Take the time to wash, polish, and wax your boat so it looks fantastic on the water. Start with a thorough cleaning to remove any salt, dirt, and grime then give it a good polishing to create a smooth, glossy surface. After that, apply a wax to protect your finish and keep your boat looking great all year long.

Prepare Your Fishing Equipment

Getting all those fishing poles and lures ready can take a long time, so get started early. Give all your reels new fishing line and fresh oil, and organize your tackle box so you’re a more efficient angler. If you need nets, hooks, knives, or any other fishing gear, now is the time to go out and purchase them.

Don’t Forget the Trailer

If you tow your boat, you can’t forget to check your trailer. First off, take care of the registration so you are legal to pull on the trailer. Next, check your rollers and pads and inspect the wheel bearings to make sure they roll smoothly. Clean and lubricate the winch, tongue jack, and wheels, and check the tire pressure. Make sure the safety chain and tongue lock are in good shape and you’ll be ready to roll.

Visit Scout today and find the right fishing boat for you and your family. Whether you want a large boat for a big group, or a small boat for nimble fishing adventures, we have the boat you need.

Scout Boats are Worth the Price

Innovation Award

Innovation Award

At Scout, we understand that a boat, which most people use for recreation and weekend fun, can be a big-ticket item. With so much on the line, purchasing a boat is certainly not something you want to do carelessly.

You need to take your time, be patient, and get all the information available. Like purchasing a car or a home, a boat is not always about the bottom line, as there are many factors that should be considered.

We’d like to show you why a Scout boat is worth the money. You’ll see how superior designs, outstanding reliability, and a wide range of features results in a value that few other boat manufacturers can match.

Innovative Thinking from the Very Beginning

We take pride in our research and development process, not only because it allows us to put our brand’s character into each model, but also because it results in boats that are unique, elegant, and stylish. Many boat makers hire out their boat designs, but we do everything in house, utilizing one of the best design teams in the industry.

Hand-Laid Construction

At Scout, we use a 100% hand-laid build process. From the first layer to the last, our fiberglass boats use a hand-laid system. Many brands use a spray system, then hand lay one or two layers and call the product “hand-laid.” But at Scout, everything is completely done by hand, resulting in superior strength to weight ratio.

Durable, Long-Lasting Boats

Our boats are created for long-lasting quality, and we use innovative designs, as well as advanced materials, to achieve these goals. This is best seen in the reverse shoebox design of our boats. Picture a shoebox: The lip of the lid that encompasses the box itself, surrounding it on all sides except the bottom. This is what we do with our hulls and decks, only upside down. The decks fit inside hull and both pieces are bonded together. This enables the two pieces to become one, enhancing the strength and long lasting quality of the boat. Our reverse shoebox design results in boats that keep their shape much longer than average fiberglass boats.

Because wood can rot, we never use this material in any part of our boats. By using composite materials for every single piece, our boats last longer in the water.

Excellence is in the Details

Sometimes you have to look closely to see a product’s excellence. With a Scout, you can look around the corners and inside the hinges and doors to find unique, refined details, such the finished bilges. You wouldn’t notice this detail unless you’re inside the boat, but it’s a small detail that makes a Scout superior. Little things like clean screw-head alignments and superior wiring relays make our boats a marvel of refined details.

The Best Warranty Around

A warranty is an important factor when purchasing a boat. Simply put, Scout Boats has the best warranty in the industry. Our three-year limited stem to stern warranty covers everything in the boat for the first year and all parts and materials for years two years after that.

There is also a ten-year structural hull warranty that covers any structural problems whatsoever for an entire decade. We stand behind our boats and we stand behind our warranties, ensuring you have a vessel that you can enjoy for many years to come.

Stunning Scout Boats: Combining Art With Engineering

LXF Series

LXF Series

If you are purchasing a boat, you deserve to have something that not only performs perfectly, but also stands out visually from every other boat on the water.

At Scout Boats, we take pride in crafting boat that looks great, not only in the showroom, but on the water. Our boats are made to look their best, and we use all our energy, experience, and abilities to meet this goal.

Research and Development: Where it all Starts

A quality boat of any kind starts with research and development, but at Scout, we are fanatical about the process, putting extra time, energy, and resources into designing the most visually impressive boats possible.

Scout Boats president and CEO Steve Potts sets the pace for our commitment to research and development. While he is involved in every aspect of the business, he personally spends most of his time in the Research and Development department. He’s a boat builder at heart, and he takes pride in being involved in the process and overseeing one of the finest design teams in the industry.

Our in-house research and development team sets us apart from many of our competitors. The common practice in the industry is to hire design services to outside shops, and while these teams do fine work, they don’t allow a boat company to put their own personal passion and character into the product. Our visually stunning boats are a standout in the industry, and it all starts with our in-house research and development team.

Gelcoat Color: Scout Boat’s Identity

When Steve Potts started Scout Boats, one of his first goals was to create the perfect color for a gelcoat. It had to be pleasing to the eye in both a showroom and on the water, while helping to identify the product, even from afar. Scout’s gelcoat not only looks great, it was made to minimize glare, unlike the bright, appliance-like white that you see on many other products. The gelcoat is another detail that enhances the visual appearance of a Scout Boat.

Interior Options: Comfort Meets Style

At Scout Boats, we want our vessels to look good from every angle. That not only means a stunning view for people on showroom floors, but also for people taking the boat out for a cruise.

We have included some of the finest vinyl interiors in the industry. The standard upholstery is a light, tan color that looks great with our gelcoat and gives the interior a soft appearance with sturdy performance.

We also have upgraded vinyl interiors, including Italia and Brisa. The Italia vinyl is modeled after European luxury sports cars, with a rich golden hue and black piping. The Brisa has a dark brown appearance that resembles high-quality leather. It is soft and velvety, making your boat pleasing to both the eye and the touch.

Artist’s Signature from Potts

We not only see our boats as feats of engineering, but works of art. Nothing embodies this sentiment more than the boot stripe, which is personally painted by Steve Potts. That’s right, our founder, president, and CEO insists on adding his handcrafted touch to every boat. This is just another unique visual feature that sets us apart from the competition and makes our boats the most visually stunning achievement on the water.

A Scout Boat is Waiting for You

Are you looking for a top-quality boat that looks fantastic? Then you need a Scout. Our boats are made to provide the highest level of performance and comfort, so check out our complete lineup today.
